Botulinum toxins (Botox, etc.) are one of the most extensively studied medical aesthetic treatments and are approved for cosmetic use in 78 countries. Botulinum toxins are approved treatment to temporarily improve the appearance of both moderate to severe frown lines in and around the face and neck.
Wrinkles result from a combination of many factors. It’s not just about cellular changes that can occur over time, reduction of collagen, or damage caused by free radicals in the sun and the environment. When you frown or concentrate, the muscles between your brows contract, causing your skin to furrow and fold. And when you squint, the muscles around your eyes contract and cause crow’s feet.
Botulinum toxins work beneath the skin’s surface and targets the underlying muscle activity that causes frown lines and crow’s feet. Botulinum toxins target one of the underlying causes of frown lines and crow’s feet—the repeated muscle contractions from frowning and squinting over the years. Dr. Bakaj will inject these muscles with to temporarily reduce muscle activity. You will begin to notice a visible smoothing of your crow’s feet lines and frown lines in the areas treated within 48-72 hours, and the effects can last 3 months.
Xeomin is an injectable wrinkle relaxer, similar to BOTOX, which we offer as a variety of treatment options for muscle-induced wrinkles.

What is Xeomin®?
Xeomin® is a prescription medicine that is injected into muscles, and works very much like Botox®, by temporarily reducing or eliminating muscle contractions in the area.
The difference between Botox vs. Xeomin lies in the type of botulinum toxin A used. Whereas Botox® uses onabotulinumtoxinA, Xeomin utilizes a slightly different version called incobotulinumtoxinA.
Both treatments are FDA approved for the treatment of frown lines and work by relaxing the treated muscles.
How Xeomin® Works
Much like Botox®, Xeomin® relies on botulinum toxin to temporarily relax facial muscles by preventing contraction of muscle fibers. Without muscle contraction, certain wrinkles, like frown lines, crows feet and forehead wrinkles, can be significantly reduced since they are caused by muscle movements and not just the natural aging of the skin. Results from Xeomin can be expected from between 4 to 7 days with full effects by 2 weeks.
How Long Does Xeomin® Last?
The improvements from a typical injection tend to last several months, which of course heavily depends on the patient’s individual chemistry and metabolism rates. However, keep in mind that Xeomin® treatments are likely a better solution for ongoing facial skin treatment.
